Lost River Caverns

A Macaroni Kid Review

By Meghan Griech, Macaroni Kid Quakertown-Doylestown Publisher August 25, 2017

This summer we went to Lost River Caverns, in Hellertown.  We had never been there, have you?  I highly recommend you go.

Lost River Caverns is an underground adventure.  The cavern once purchased by Erwin Gilman in 1929 and has been open since 1930. Now it is owned and managed by his grandchildren.  This local family business has been thriving ever since.

During your 45minute guided tour you will learn about the limestone cavern, the cavern popcorn and calcite deposits.  Along the tour you will be lead through narrow passage ways, down the ramps and stairs where the lowest ceiling is 5ft, 1in and the tallest ceiling is 20ft.  Don't worry no bats are in the cavern! They can't get in since the entrance to the cavern is in the gift shop! But by the end of the tour you will be 116ft deep in the ground!

** The cavern is a consistent 52 degrees, be sure to bring a sweatshirt**

After the tour be sure to check out the gems and minerals in the gift shop.  Custom made jewelry made with precious and semi precious stones are available.  My son loved the hard hads! My daughters loved the unique stuffed animals and gifts available.

Lost River Caverns is a great local family business! After the tour you can go panning and take a nature walk around the outside grounds.
