Doylestown is Turning Pink , Have You noticed?

October 18, 2018

The Pine2Pink Foundation 501(c)(3) is slated to launch this October in Doylestown, PA, and run the entire month, to benefit local breast cancer patients in

treatment and recovery.

The goal of the Foundation’s 30-day program is to solicit donations from sponsors, partners and local citizens by changing Pine St. into Pink St. – Changing the exterior lighting throughout town from white to pink – Creating the Pine2Pink app, which will launch a virtual immersive pink ribbon scavenger hunt throughout town in association with over 150 local retailers, businesses and merchants.

There are over 5,000 Pine Streets across the United States, the Foundation will take the program to each city and town and change Pine St. to Pink St. for a designated amount of time each year. The funds raised in these local communities, towns and cities will directly impact the breast cancer patients in their own zip codes.

This year, Pine2Pink’s proceeds will benefit local breast cancer patients at Doylestown Health’s Cancer Institute who are in treatment and recovery in multiple ways including, treatment transportation, cold caps, known to reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss and out-of-pocket medical expenses, to name a few. Dr. Donna Angotti, Breast Cancer Surgeon and the Director of the Breast Cancer Program of Doylestown Health, has been instrumental in working with Pine2Pink and helping to craft the focus of our mission.

Keith Fenimore, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Pine2Pink states, “Every founder of a non-profit organization needs a motivating catalyst. I was motivated to create Pine2Pink as a way to memorialize my grandmother Josephine Mazza, whom I never met because of breast cancer and to honor my mom, Marianne Fenimore, breast cancer tried to take her away from me in 1999, but failed miserably. It is my goal for Pine2Pink to provide a source of relief and comfort to patients during the grueling process of treatment and recovery and let them focus on becoming whole again, and take away some of the financial stresses that come with battling breast cancer.”

As part of its unique outreach initiative, Pine2Pink will literally turn Doylestown pink. Over 150 stores and merchants in town have committed to changing their exterior lighting to pink the entire month of October including the Mercer Museum, the Michener Museum, YMCA, The County Theater, Doylestown Hospital, and The County Court House, as well as the street lights operated by Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township. **Drone footage available upon request.

For its first year, Pine2Pink has secured generous sponsorships from The Minford Foundation, providing the charitable grant contribution that established Pine2Pink’s 501(c)(3), as well as from Provident Bank, Covenant Bank, The Boys Scouts Washington Crossing Council, The Morel Family Foundation, Giant Food Stores, The First Financial Bank & Trust of Netown, EB Salon, Dermagrafix, Allied Home Mortgage, Chambers19/The Other Side, The Doylestown Inn/The Hattery, Altomonte’s, Alan Reed & Co., Louise Williamson of Keller Williams, Prestige Institute of Plastic Surgery, Smith’s Auto and Truck Service, CMC Investment Management, LLC. and Class-Harlan Real Estate.

Pine2Pink has also partnered with local organizations who are hosting events and creating specialty items that will generate proceeds to directly benefit the cause. These partner events include:

• “Pine2Pink Movie Night” hosted by The County Theater (September 20)

• “Yoga Class in The Grass” at the Mercer Museum with Cornerstone Clubs

(September 22).

As a part of eat, drink and shop pink, specialty items are being created by Hops/Scotch (P2P cocktail), Bagel Barrel (pink bagels), Annie’s Water Ice (pink srpinkles), Raymer’s Homemade Candy (pink confections), Lilly’s Gourmet (P2P sandwich), Jules Thin Crust (P2P dessert pizza), Nonno’s (pink milkshake), Lovebird (Shirley Temple Soda), The Hattery (a special menu item), Hickory Kitchen (pink lemonade), Penn Taproom (a P2P Burger), Chambers19 (Pink Beer), Zen Den (Rose Soda), 86 West (a Pink Godzilla roll) and Penn Taproom (P2P burger).

The Pine2Pink scavenger Hunt App (available September 30 in the App Store and Google Play) will have people canvassing Doylestown from Our Lady of Mount Carmel to the YMCA and the Cultural District to Fonthill Castle. People will be seeking and collecting over 150 virtual pink ribbons, which have been placed using GPS. An escalation system is in place for people to win amazing prizes based on how many ribbons they capture. The ribbons will reside both inside and outside of retail stores, restaurants and various points of interest throughout the Borough and the Township. A random drawing will determine the winners.

There are over 100 prizes that range from Karate Lessons from Action Karate to a 3-month membership to Cornerstone, $400 in hair products & services from EB Salon, tickets to Live w/ Kelly and Ryan and a $1,800 painting from Chapman Gallery.

“Pine2Pink is approaching fundraising and audience engagement differently. We are using technology and both online and offline experiences and devices to engage and motivate people to donate to their local community members, friends and neighbors in need.

Pine2Pink will unearth a new group of donors and charitable contributors who may not have ever made a charitable contribution before, but hold wellness and health in high regard. A very cool and organic secondary benefit to Pine2Pink is its ability to stimulate local commerce by bringing people into town and increasing foot traffic through the virtual scavenger hunt app which, at its core, drives donations through gamification,” states Fenimore. The Pine2Pink website and app were designed by the International Digital Agency ebow. The website, which ebow also built, accepts donations and provides insights into the general happenings of the organization, and its community events (www.pine2pink.org). The app was built by ReturntoSender.

This year, Pine2Pink has aligned with two media sponsors. The Bucks County Herald and The Intelligencer/Bucks County Courier Times, both are dedicated to supporting the Foundation through editorial, advertising support, and social media outreach. Pine2Pink is officially endorsed by Doylestown Health, Doylestown’s Mayor Ron Strouse and the Borough and Township Councils.

We are taking the Field of Dreams approach… If we build it, Pink will come! We are aware the world famous singer Pink! grew up in Doylestown, PA. And yes, we would love for her to join Pine2Pink’s Board of Directors and help us benefit breast cancer patients in treatment and recovery across the entire USA.
