5 Historical Places to Visit in Bucks County with your Kids

Bucks County is full of history. All we need is a tank of gas and an afternoon to see some amazing history around Quakertown, Doylestown, Close the history books and check out some of local Bucks County historical sites. 

Washington Crossing Historic Park

More than 500 forest and naturally beautiful acres hold the Washington Crossing Historic Park. The site of Washington's Crossing preserved in history from the time of the Revolutionary War. The Visitors Center hold historic exhibits educational center, park and tour information.

Pearl S. Buck House

Pearl S Buck was a writer, humanitarian and activist who won The Pulitzer Prize in Literature for her novel, The Good Earth, and the Nobel Prize in Literature for her body of work. Pearl used her recognition to open Welcome House (the world’s first international biracial adoption agency) and established The Pearl S. Buck Foundation (now Pearl S. Buck International) to provide international humanitarian aid.  Her family land and home, The Pearl S Buck House, is now a National Historical Landmark. The grounds of the estate hold the family stone farmhouse, Pearl S Buck’s grave site, greenhouse, award winning gardens, Cultural Center and Welcome Center. 

Mercer Museum & Fonthill Castle

Known for it’s collections of ’everything’, the castle houses over 40,000 American artifacts in over 44 rooms and over 200 windows of all different sizes.  Can you guess how many bathrooms? Over 60 American Trades are represented at the museum.  Kids can explore the exhibits on the ground floor, featuring exhibits just for them.  Complete the Scavenger Hunt throughout the museum and continue the fun at home, explore the kid art area on the third floor.  


Bowman’s Hill Tower

Bowman’s Hill Tower is built of fieldstone, taking 2 years to complete. The tower has become a favorite of local and tourists. At the top of the 125 ft tower, a view of 14 miles long is visible on a clear day.  

Pennsbury Manor

Located on 40+ acres in Bucks County, Pennsbury Manor is a reconstruction of William Penn’s house along the Delaware River. During visits, demonstration and hands-on activities occur. April through October, meet William Penn, watch or talk colonial craftsman cook, blacksmith, gardeners hold demonstrations; don’t forget the farm animals.
