Top Tips for Visiting Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom

By Meghan Griech, Publisher Macaroni Kid Quakertown-Doylestown August 18, 2019

One of the many perks of living in Bucks County with young children is having Dorney Park just a little ways away in Alllentown Pa! Local parents are lucky to be “park insiders” and know the in’s and out’s to having a fun, stress-free day with the family.

I asked around our community for the best tips and tricks and happy to share the helpful feedback. Many thanks to all who offered their thoughts on this topic!

Good to know:

  • Parking is at a cost - if going on a sunny day - buy a preferred parking pass unless you are willing to walk through possibly 2 park lots
    • If the direct you to park under the bridge = Long walk
  • Very clean and staff are super helpful
  • Plan on at least 2-3 hours to be there
  • Buy tickets online to save $$$
  • Lockers located in the waterpark. large and small options
  • Trivia Crew: employees walking around with sign - easy way to pissibly win a fun prize, fast lane passes ....

Best ways to avoid crowds:

  • Go during the week (especially in June through August)
  • If going on a weekend - get there as soon as they open to beat some of the bus crowd
  • If you can only go on the weekends, best to go on a Sunday when the park opens
  • Try overcast days

The Rides/Attractions:

  • Tons of rides for young kids in Snoopy Land Area
  • Water area: Storybook Seaport - water play area, no slides - bathing suit recommended but not required. Towel is helpful
  • WWK: Lollipop Lagoon has lounging areas for tired parents with easy viewing of kids while they slide and play.
  • If stay at WWK most of the day consider a Cabana: Worth every penny per a frequent visitor (it is recommended you reserve them in advance since they are popular)
  • Hit the water park at early evening time, a lot of people clear out for dinner, thinnning the crowd a lot

What to bring:

  • Put essentials like keys, wallet and a phone in a waterproof pouch to keep with you
  • Wagon with a canopy will give tired feet a break. And, it is good storage for towels and a change of clothes, and snacks

Mealtime tips:

  • Check out the old fashion funnel cake store - yummy specials!
  • If staying all day - consider the all day dining plan (voters said it was worth it)
  • Burrito Cantina burrito bowl will provide enough food to share between an adult and small child if you load it up (Frequent visitor tip)
  • Mac N Cheese in WildWater Kingdom is amazing and a generous portion (Frequent visitor tip)
  • You can eat every 1.5hrs with the meal plan - stagger eating between members in your group to get the best bag for your buck if you buy this!
  • Take your own refillable water bottles. They will let you have free ice and then they have water fountains

Finding Shade and Beating the Heat:

  • Lots of mature trees provide shade
  • Many water stations are around the park to refill water bottles
  • Stand on the bridge at the flume ride - you will certainly get wet!
