Barn Nature Center Summer Camp for Young Animal Lovers

By Terry Dougherty, Executive Director April 1, 2025

The Barn Nature Center in Doylestown offers an enriching summer camp tailored for children aged 5 to 12. This camp provides a unique opportunity for young enthusiasts to engage in hands-on animal interactions, delve into animal care, and explore the principles of conservationism. Our campers are immersed in a dynamic environment where they interact with over 60 rescued and re-homed animal residents. Each week features a distinct theme, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience. Activities encompass animal care routines, interactive games, creative crafts, and educational sessions focused on environmental stewardship.

Some of our weekly themes include Zookeeper Week, Vet Week, and Conservation Curiosity!

Zookeeper Week: Campers step into the shoes of a zookeeper, learning the intricacies of caring for exotic species. Activities include exhibit design, animal training, enrichment projects, and delivering keeper talks.

Vet Week: Aspiring veterinarians gain insights into animal health care, learning techniques such as bandaging, vital sign monitoring, and understanding animal physiology. The week features a guest appearance by a professional veterinarian.

Conservation Curiosity: This week emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation. Campers explore various biomes, understand threats to ecosystems, and discover sustainable practices to protect our planet.

Each camp week runs from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Before and After Care are available for an additional fee, allowing drop-off at 8:30 AM and pick-up by 4:30 PM. Early registration is recommended due to limited spots. For more information or to register, visit Barn Nature Center. Engaging in the Barn Nature Center's Summer Camps not only fosters a love for animals but also instills a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation in young minds.
